Bengaluru: In a proactive move, traffic police officers filled potholes near the Devanga Hostel traffic signal, close to the BBMP headquarters, to prevent accidents involving two-wheelers and ease traffic congestion. The heavy rains over the past two days had worsened road conditions, with potholes multiplying across the city.
Officers took the matter into their own hands, using cement and M-sand to fill potholes temporarily, with assistance from the public. Similar interventions were also carried out at other busy junctions, including Doddanekundi and Bilekahalli, where potholes were causing significant traffic delays.
The Devanga signal area, already prone to congestion, became a nightmare for commuters due to the deteriorating road surface. “Traffic was moving slowly due to these potholes. To ensure the safety of two-wheelers, our officers decided to act,” said one police official.
BBMP Criticized for Lack of Action
The damaged condition of roads near BBMP headquarters has sparked public criticism, with citizens commending the police’s efforts while criticizing the civic body for its negligence.
“The police are stepping in to do BBMP’s job,” commented a local commuter. The traffic police have emphasized that their work is only a temporary measure to ensure smooth commuting until the civic body addresses the issue.
This isn’t the first instance where Bengaluru’s traffic police have stepped up to handle civic issues—highlighting the growing frustration with delayed responses from BBMP, especially after recent bouts of rain caused severe road damage across the city.
