New Delhi, October 16: A heartfelt letter written by Ratan Tata in 1996 to former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao has resurfaced, gaining attention for its tribute to Rao’s pivotal role in shaping India’s economic reforms. The letter was recently shared on social media by RPG Group Chairman Harsh Goenka, showcasing Tata’s deep admiration for the visionary leadership that transformed India’s economy.

In the letter, penned on August 27, 1996, on Tata Group’s Bombay House stationery, Ratan Tata acknowledged the former prime minister’s “outstanding achievement” in ushering in much-needed reforms. He lauded Rao for opening India to global opportunities and steering it toward recovery and progress.

“Every Indian should owe you a debt of gratitude for the courageous and far-sighted ‘opening up’ of India,” Tata wrote, recognizing Rao’s efforts to align India with the global economy. Often hailed as the ‘Father of Indian Economic Reforms,’ Rao’s policies were instrumental in transitioning India from a closed economy to a more liberalized one.

Harsh Goenka, while sharing the letter, commented, “Beautiful writing from a beautiful person,” emphasizing the sincerity and admiration in Tata’s words. The note, marked “personal,” is a testament to Tata’s longstanding commitment to India’s progress and the mutual respect between industry leaders and policymakers.
