BENGALURU: In a tragic incident, acclaimed Kannada filmmaker Guruprasad, aged 52, was found dead in his apartment on the outskirts of Bengaluru, police reported on Sunday. Authorities suspect the death may have been a suicide.
The incident occurred within the Madanayakanahalli police station limits. According to C.K. Baba, Superintendent of Police (SP) for Bengaluru Rural, Guruprasad had recently been seen entering the residence but had not been observed since. “Neighbors noticed a foul odor coming from the flat, prompting them to alert the police. We found the director’s body hanging from a ceiling fan, in a decomposed state, indicating that he may have passed five to six days ago,” Baba stated.
Sources close to the investigation indicate that the filmmaker had been experiencing personal and financial stress. Although the exact reason remains unclear, it is believed Guruprasad had been distressed over issues related to his films and finances.
Known for his works such as Mata and Yeddelu Manjunatha, Guruprasad carved a niche in Kannada cinema with his distinctive style and storytelling. The body has been taken for post-mortem examination, and a case has been registered as police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
