In Hyderabad, a candle march was organized by the Anjuman-E-Masoomeen on Thursday to protest the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) on September 27, 2024. The march was attended by various Shia leaders and featured the participation of Mahdi Shahrokhi, the Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Hyderabad.
During the protest, Shahrokhi commemorated Nasrallah as a “symbol of resistance” and condemned the Israeli airstrike that resulted in the deaths of Nasrallah and an Iranian commander. He emphasized that Iran had long exercised self-restraint despite the targeting of Iranian figures by Israel, but the recent killing had pushed the nation to retaliate.
Nasrallah, who led the Iran-backed Hezbollah movement in Lebanon, was killed in a targeted airstrike. His death was seen by Israel and the United States as a major blow to Iran’s influence in the region. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu remarked that Nasrallah’s death marked progress in returning hostages and ensuring safety in northern Israel.
