New Delhi: The Delhi Police have solved the shocking triple murder of a couple and their 23-year-old daughter in South Delhi’s Neb Sarai, revealing the son as the perpetrator. The grisly crime, carried out on the couple’s 27th wedding anniversary, has left the neighborhood in shock.
The Incident
The victims—Rajesh Kumar (51), his wife Komal (46), and their daughter Kavita (23)—were found stabbed in the throat on Wednesday morning. The couple’s son, Arjun (20), initially claimed he had gone for a morning walk and discovered the bodies upon his return. He even alerted the police and informed relatives of the tragedy.
However, inconsistencies in his statements and CCTV footage showing no external intruders led the police to focus on him as a suspect. After hours of questioning, Arjun confessed to killing his family while they slept.
The Motive
Arjun, a second-year Delhi University student and trained boxer, harbored resentment against his family. Police revealed he felt “humiliated” by his father’s constant scolding and was enraged upon discovering that the family property was to be bequeathed to his sister.
“Arjun felt isolated and neglected in the family,” said Joint Commissioner of Police Sanjay Kumar Jain. The police added that he had been planning the murders for some time and deliberately chose his parents’ anniversary to execute the crime.
A Horrific Crime
To create an alibi, Arjun left the house early that morning, returning to stage the discovery of the crime. The family’s home showed no signs of forced entry, further supporting the police’s suspicion that it was an inside job.
Neighbourhood in Shock
Neighbours described the family as friendly and approachable. “Yesterday, I saw the mother and daughter laughing on their terrace. Today, they’re gone. It’s unimaginable,” said Himani, a neighbor.
Another resident, Anjali, expressed disbelief: “The mother-daughter duo was loved by everyone. It’s horrifying to think such a tragedy unfolded in their own home.”
Political Reactions
The murders also sparked a political controversy. Delhi Chief Minister Atishi criticized the Centre, which controls Delhi Police, for failing to maintain security in the capital. “This triple murder highlights the collapse of law and order in Delhi,” she said in a post on X.
Former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal echoed similar sentiments, describing the incident as a grim reminder of the rising crime rate in the city.

This chilling case underscores the need for both societal and systemic interventions to address familial conflicts and mental health concerns. The tragedy has left the community grappling with grief and fear.
