Chennai: Tamil actor Vijay officially entered politics, launching his movement at a massive rally in Villupuram district’s Vikravandi. Speaking at the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam event, the actor criticized the ruling DMK and pledged to fight divisive politics and corruption.
Vijay accused the DMK of using power for personal gain, stating, “One family is looting the state through secret deals. Under the guise of the Dravidian model, they are deceiving the people.” While he made indirect remarks about the BJP, he declared that his focus would be on unity. “Hate politics is our enemy. We must reject division and stay united,” he urged.
The 50-year-old actor framed his political vision, emphasizing that his movement was not about money but purpose. “This crowd is here for a cause, not cash. There is no turning back from this point,” Vijay asserted. He also promised to maintain political decorum throughout his journey.
Addressing the political situation, Vijay pointed out the state’s current vacuum, as the opposition AIADMK continues to struggle after the death of former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa. “I want to be a primary force in Tamil Nadu, not just a bystander,” he said, adding that he initially hesitated to join politics but realized it would be selfish to stay away.
Vijay confirmed that his party would contest all 234 seats in the 2026 assembly elections, signaling his ambition for meaningful change. He embraced Dravidian values focused on social justice and women’s empowerment, following the teachings of Periyar. However, Vijay clarified, “We won’t adopt Periyar’s atheistic stance. We respect everyone’s faith.”
The actor also drew inspiration from historical figures like Kamaraj, Ambedkar, Velu Nachiar, and Anjalai Ammal, aligning his movement with their legacies of justice, equality, and freedom.
Vijay’s entry into politics signals a shift in Tamil Nadu’s landscape, with promises of unity, clean governance, and an inclusive future.
