Teacher, Wife, and Two Children Killed in Their Uttar Pradesh Home

UP Police

A family of four—a government school teacher, his wife, and their two children—were fatally shot at their rented residence in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, on Thursday. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has promised strict measures against the perpetrators and has directed officials to visit the crime scene.

The attackers entered the home located at the Bhavani Nagar roundabout and shot 35-year-old Sunil Kumar, his wife Poonam Bharti, and their two daughters.

The motive behind the attack and how the assailants gained entry remain unclear. According to the police, the wife had previously filed a complaint in August regarding harassment and threats against Chandan Verma, a Raebareli resident. “Unknown individuals entered the house and killed the teacher, his wife, and their two daughters, aged 5 and 2. This does not seem to be a robbery.

The teacher had lodged a case against Chandan Verma around August 18 concerning offenses under the SC/ST Act. We are investigating whether this is connected to the incident,” said Anup Singh, a senior police official. All four victims were taken to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead upon arrival.
