HYDERABAD: Based on reliable intelligence, Awantipora police have successfully dismantled a cache of IEDs, weapons, and ammunition during an operation. The operation targeted a Kashmiri terrorist affiliated with the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JEM), who played a role in recruiting and encouraging local youth to join the militant group. Police reports indicate that after identifying potential recruits, the terrorist facilitated the delivery of arms, ammunition, and explosives to them.
As a result, the group has been charged under the Indian Arms Act. The detained terrorist, currently imprisoned in Awantipora and Kulgam districts, has allegedly influenced numerous young individuals to join the terrorist network.
These recruits are allegedly supplied with firearms, grenades, IEDs, and other explosives and are trained to execute sabotage tasks, such as grenade attacks or IED explosions targeting specific organizations, security forces, and public spaces. Formal training is a prerequisite before they can undertake these attacks.
Investigations have uncovered that the recruits received assistance from the terrorist group regarding the placement and handling of IEDs. Furthermore, it has been reported that their handler would provide financial support for acquiring materials necessary for creating IEDs.
Thus far, six accomplices have been apprehended. According to their statements, authorities have seized five IEDs, 30 detonators, 17 IED batteries, two pistols, three pistol magazines, 25 rounds of ammunition, four hand grenades, and 20,000 rupees in cash, along with other explosives.
