BENGALURU: In the wake of rising prices for essential kitchen staples like onions and garlic, tomatoes in Bengaluru’s markets have almost doubled in cost.
Last week, tomatoes were priced at ₹40 per kilogram, but since Friday, the price has soared to ₹80 per kilogram. Market analysts expect the prices to increase even further in the coming days.
The sharp hike is being attributed to unseasonal rainfall affecting crop yields. Onions are currently selling at ₹70 per kilogram, and garlic has reached an astonishing ₹500 per kilogram. Amid the festive season, these escalating prices have put a damper on celebrations for many families.
