A tram derailed in central Oslo on Tuesday, crashing into a computer store and injuring the driver and three passengers, according to Norwegian police. Fortunately, none of the injuries were severe, and emergency responders treated the victims at the scene.
The tram, operated by Oslo’s transport authority Sporveien, was carrying about 20 passengers when it veered off the tracks while attempting a left turn into Storgata, a busy street in the city center. Instead of turning, it continued straight into the shop located on the ground floor of a four-story building.
Thomas Larsen, a demolition worker who witnessed the accident while riding an electric scooter, said, “I hit the brakes. Three seconds later, I would have been under it. It’s scary that this could happen in the middle of the city.”
Authorities have cordoned off the area and evacuated the building, which will be inspected for structural damage. Sporveien officials stated that it is still too early to determine the cause of the derailment, and specialists will conduct further investigations on-site.
