Patna: Two people lost their lives, and several others were injured in an accident at a Patna Metro construction site, police reported on Tuesday.
The incident occurred late Monday night inside a tunnel near the Patna University campus. According to Senior Superintendent of Police Rajeev Mishra, a pickup van lost control when its brakes failed and rammed into a group of workers inside the tunnel.
“Two people died on the spot, and six others were rushed to the hospital for treatment,” Mishra said, adding that an investigation is ongoing. “The Patna Metro authorities are also conducting a separate probe.”
Monisa Dubey, the Public Relations Officer of Patna Metro, confirmed, “The injured workers have been treated and discharged. We are looking into the mechanical failure that caused the accident to ensure accountability.”
There are unconfirmed reports from some eyewitnesses claiming that no engineers or supervisors were present in the tunnel at the time of the accident. However, officials have not commented on these allegations yet.
