U.S. Enforces Major Sanctions on Indian and Chinese Firms Over Alleged Support for Russia”

Washington, D.C : In its latest move to enforce sanctions related to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the United States announced significant sanctions targeting over 400 entities and individuals across various countries, with a strong focus on firms from India, China, and Hong Kong. This marks the largest action to date against third-country entities accused of enabling Russia to bypass sanctions imposed following its 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Both the U.S. Treasury and State Departments emphasized that these sanctions demonstrate a renewed commitment to cutting off Russia’s access to military supplies from global markets.

Notably, the crackdown includes Indian companies for the first time, underscoring an increased U.S. focus on stemming rising exports of critical goods from India to Russia. Among the sanctioned Indian companies is Futrevo, alleged to have supplied key items to a Russian drone manufacturer, and Shreya Life Sciences, accused of sending millions in technology shipments since 2023.

Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo warned that the U.S. and its allies would continue to “act decisively” to disrupt the flow of high-priority goods and technologies to Russia, signaling a hardening stance against nations seen as potential conduits for military resources.

China, however, emerged as the leading source of high-priority goods to Russia, accounting for more than 70% of such shipments since the conflict began, according to U.S. officials. The Chinese Embassy in Washington condemned the sanctions, calling them a “double standard” and denouncing U.S. support for Ukraine as “hypocritical.”

The U.S. sanctions extend beyond India and China to entities in the UAE, Turkey, Thailand, Malaysia, and Switzerland. While the U.S. stopped short of penalizing financial institutions through executive orders, officials have warned that such measures remain on the table should other channels fail to curb Russia’s access to critical goods.
