Mirzapur : In a recent disciplinary action, an Assistant Development Officer (Agriculture) in Mirzapur district has been suspended for entering the Vindhyavasini Temple wearing shoes and neglecting his official duties during the Navratri festival.
Prateek Kumar Singh, who was concurrently serving as a Sector Magistrate during the festival, was observed by City MLA Ratnakar Mishra while visiting the temple. Mishra took immediate action by reprimanding Singh for his inappropriate behavior and instructing him to leave the temple premises.
Following the incident, the Mirzapur District Magistrate (DM) issued a directive leading to Singh’s suspension. Deputy Director (Agriculture) Vikas Patel acted on the DM’s instructions and formally suspended Singh from his position.
According to an official statement from the Information Department, Singh was on duty when he chose to visit the temple wearing shoes, thereby violating the temple’s established protocols and neglecting his responsibilities. This breach of conduct not only disrespected the sanctity of the religious site but also demonstrated a disregard for his professional obligations.
The suspension underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining decorum and adherence to established norms, especially during significant cultural and religious events like Navratri. Officials emphasized the importance of setting a positive example for the public and upholding the integrity of government roles.
Residents and temple-goers have expressed their support for the decision, highlighting the need for officials to respect cultural and religious practices. The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of following proper etiquette and maintaining professionalism, particularly during public and ceremonial occasions.
