Ghaziabad : A private Urdu teacher was reportedly harassed and forced out of a housing society in Ghaziabad, with a group of residents allegedly asking him to chant “Jai Shri Ram,” according to local police. The incident took place at a residential complex in the Crossings Republik township on Tuesday.
Manoj Kumar, a resident of the society and the main accused, has been arrested, said Assistant Commissioner of Police (Wave City) Lipi Nagaich. The teacher, Mohammad Alamgir, had been visiting the society regularly to tutor a student on the 16th floor when he was intercepted by Kumar and several other residents.
The group reportedly raised “Jai Shri Ram” slogans and pressured Alamgir to chant along. When he refused, the situation escalated, with Kumar aggressively blocking his access to the building’s elevator, police said.
As the confrontation grew, more residents joined in, continuing to pressure Alamgir to chant the slogan. Although a security guard and other residents tried to diffuse the situation, Alamgir was ultimately forced to leave the society.
Alamgir later filed a police complaint detailing the harassment, though he did not initially mention the forced chanting in writing. However, he verbally informed the police about being asked to chant “Jai Shri Ram.”
The police have arrested Kumar and booked him under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including wrongful restraint (126[2]), intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace (352), and criminal intimidation (351[2]).
The investigation is ongoing, and police are examining CCTV footage and gathering testimonies to further establish the details.
